The History of Henna
Henna or Mehndi is a
traditional form of body art which has been used to adorn young
women’s bodies as part of both social and holiday
celebrations for thousands of years. It uses a natural dye made from
leaves of the Henna plant and other natural ingredients to create
individual markings and patterns on the skin. Besides being an integral
part of wedding ceremonies across the Middle Eastern region, henna was
also used to celebrate births, blessings and battle victories. It is
also considered to have therapeutic and cooling effects on the skin.
Today henna body art is one of the hottest trends around with
contemporary, traditional (or just plain fanciful!?) designs lasting
from 1 week up to 2 weeks depending on the quality of the paste,
individual skin type, and how long the paste is allowed to stay on the
skin.
Using henna you can make a tattoo that is safe, temporary, pain-free
and lots of fun! It has become a versatile form of personal statement
that can be used by men, women and children alike!
